Understanding Administering of Medications
Before administering any medications, whether prescription or over the counter (OTC), written authorization (via email) must be given by the parent which includes the date & a signature. Any medications must be accompanied by a signed, dated written consent or Mrs. Barbara cannot administer. A link for medication can be found on the Parent Page of the website.
Prescription medication MUST be in the original container with the child’s name, type of medication, dosage, directions for administering, date, & physician’s name.
OTC medications must be in the original container and be accompanied by a signed, dated note by the parent outlining dosage and time administered. This includes Tylenol, allergy medicines, & any other OTC medications. Mrs. Barbara can no longer just give them something per request. A link for medication can be found on the Parent Page of the website. If you know you’ll be sending medication on a given day, fill out the form that morning, prior to bringing the medication.
Per the state of Oregon, daycare providers must now keep a written record of all medications administered: OTC & Prescription, which includes date, time, & dosage administered along with the signed & dated note from the parent.
Medications cannot be administered “as needed”. Parents must supply precise instructions related to any medications: OTC & Prescription
Medications requiring penetration of the skin (injections) and/or suppositories are the responsibility of the parent and will not be administered by the daycare provider.
Parents understand that one of them will be called to pick up their child immediately if he/she demonstrates adverse reactions to any medications given.
